The department was established on the basis of the decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on May 13, 2016. Since 2016, and has been working as part of the Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navoi. From 2018 to 2022, this department was not in operation. From September 5, 2022. The Department of Folklore and Dialectology is a structural unit of the Faculty of Uzbek Philology of the Uzbek Language and Literature University named after Alisher Navoi. as well as scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel training, qualification improvement and re-training, as well as organizational-methodological, spiritual-educational and educational works are carried out. The department is headed by Doctor of Philology, Professor Samikhon Ashirbayev.
There are 8 professors at the department, 2 of them are doctors of science, 2 candidates of science, associate professors, 2 senior teachers.
Scientific potential of the department: 50%.
Priorities of the department:
- theoretical and practical issues of folklore and dialectology, in particular, the areal study of folk art and Uzbek dialects, organization of scientific activities on Uzbek dialectology;
- carrying out educational, educational-methodological, scientific-research works in the field, as well as conducting work on the basis of a target plan for the training of scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel;
- development of republican and international scientific-practical projects, organization and holding of international seminars, conferences on collecting and collecting folklore samples and researching their characteristics;
- to establish continuous cooperation activities with similar in their field.
