Confident Steps of a Young Scholar

From April 20, 2025, for a period of one month, Durdona Ermatova — a researcher at Alisher Navo'i Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature and a teacher at “Uzbek School” — undertook an academic trip to the prestigious Ca’ Foscari University in Italy. During her visit, she carried out educational and scientific activities dedicated to the Uzbek language and culture. This visit was a result of the Erasmus+ program project implemented in collaboration between TSUULL and Ca’ Foscari University.

Durdona Ermatova conducted practical sessions on the Uzbek language and culture for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students at the Department of Asian and North African Studies of the university. These sessions covered Uzbek phonetics, grammar, lexical richness, stylistic features, as well as the rich cultural heritage and history of the Uzbek people — all delivered using modern pedagogical approaches. Special attention was given to doctoral students conducting research in comparative linguistics, with lessons tailored to their individual academic needs based on a specially developed scientific-didactic program.

In collaboration with the renowned linguist and professor at Ca’ Foscari University, Elisabetta Ragagnin, Durdona Ermatova also participated in linguistics classes and led joint sessions on comparative linguistics. These classes provided students with the opportunity to deeply analyze the comparative aspects of Turkic languages, especially Uzbek, in relation to other languages.

During the visit, Durdona Ermatova established close academic ties with university scholars, actively participated in their lectures, and enriched her own academic and methodological experience. Furthermore, she took part in the international project “Translation of the Marco Polo Book into Uzbek” as a translator, effectively applying both theoretical and practical aspects of the Uzbek language during the translation process.

This visit contributed not only to the further development of Durdona Ermatova’s personal scientific potential but also to strengthening academic cooperation between higher education institutions of Uzbekistan and Italy, as well as promoting the status of the Uzbek language on the international stage.
