Speaker: Anton is a 4th-year PhD student in AAE at UW-Madison, researching water-sharing rules in Uzbekistan and the Colorado River, with a focus on how scarcity and social dynamics shape water use.
Objectives: This research examines how farmers in Uzbekistan decide to adopt water-saving technologies like drip irrigation, focusing on their position along irrigation canals and water availability. Using mathematical modeling and modified irrigation games that incorporate technology adoption choices, we study economic and social factors affecting farmers' decisions. The experimental games, conducted with 200-300 farmers across four regions, aim to inform policies promoting sustainable water use in agricultural communities where water scarcity is a growing concern.
