TSUULL Sets Priorities for Methodological Education Ahead of the New Academic Year
As the new academic year approaches, Alisher Navo’i Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature (TSUULL) is placing a strong focus on modernising teaching approaches, improving the quality of education, and strengthening teacher training in line with contemporary requirements.
Ahead of the new academic year, TSUULL Rector, Academician Shuhrat Sirojiddinov, visited the Department of Methodology of Teaching the Uzbek Language and the Department of Methodology of Teaching Literature to review their current work and discuss priorities for further development.
The discussions covered the departments’ academic and methodological capacity, approaches to teaching, use of technology, and plans for the coming period. Particular attention was given to TSUULL’s mission to continuously evaluate the teaching of Uzbek language and literature, identify challenges in educational practice, develop effective teaching methods, and integrate them into the classroom.
It was emphasised that traditional approaches alone are no longer sufficient. The content and methodology of Uzbek language and literature education should evolve in line with international educational standards, contemporary pedagogical approaches, digital technologies, and the growing potential of artificial intelligence.
The effective use of the university’s technological resources was also discussed. Although dedicated computer rooms and modern equipment have been provided to support interactive teaching, these resources are not yet being fully utilised, particularly in specialised subjects. Faculty members were therefore encouraged to strengthen their digital and pedagogical competencies, engage in continuous professional development, and make fuller use of the facilities available to them.
As part of this effort, the departments were tasked with reviewing curricula and course programmes in line with international standards and current educational needs, developing new methodological approaches, and expanding the use of modern technologies in teaching.
Particular emphasis was placed on the role of students as future teachers. The knowledge, teaching methods, and pedagogical competencies they develop during their university education will ultimately influence the learning experiences of future generations. This places a significant responsibility on the two methodology departments to ensure that teacher training is both relevant and forward-looking.
The Rector stressed that these priorities should be translated into clear, systematic, and measurable actions, rather than simply documenting existing challenges. He also noted that the university’s methodological development should extend beyond short-term plans and contribute to a long-term strategy for the development of Uzbek language and literature teaching over the next decade, taking into account emerging changes in education and technology.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening the connection between academic research, methodological innovation, and classroom practice. The departments were tasked with sharing and building on effective practices, piloting modern pedagogical technologies, and evaluating their impact on learning.
These priorities are intended to support a more modern, research-informed, and technology-enabled approach to the teaching of Uzbek language and literature, while strengthening TSUULL’s role in preparing highly qualified teachers for the future.
